Though it's a draft at this point, it's certainly a step in the right direction. The FDA has let it be known they would welcome Pharma companies finding relevant social conversations and adding their voice to the discussion. Even if it means ultimately moving the conversation to more private areas, they recognize the value of drug makers getting involved in online talk surrounding medication and treatments.

Time for Pharma to get social. : )

Cheers

Excellent points here, especially the one relating to the time commitment. There's nothing worse than a social media site where the last entry is months before. Who'd return to that? On the other hand, there are so many great avenues for social media communication with customers and prospects -- you can create a closed LinkedIn group, so you can control who posts (and what); you can start a blog, for a more-personal communicaiton of your company's goals and strategies. The venues are there, once you establish the message.

The FDA has certainly been slow to enter the realm of social media.

Still, as slow as that process may be, the relationship between the FDA and social media is always evolving. For those interested, here’s a related article on what the future may bring for the relationship between social media and the FDA. It’s split into four parts, and may provide a deeper understanding of the issue at hand.
